Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day to reflect on the accomplishments and legacy that the Reverend King left behind. It is also a nationally celebrated holiday where many are off of work and celebrating the first 3-day weekend after the holiday season.
It is typically a holiday where people will dine out rather than having a meal at home as you might see with Memorial Day or the 4th of July. This can mainly be associated with the time of year and the fact that MLK Day is not a food-centric holiday.
Here are some tips to help bring in the masses on a holiday Monday.
1. Brunch!
The most popular trend right now for MLK Day is brunch. It’s the perfect meal for the long weekend so treat it as such. If you offer brunch on weekends only, consider including this extra day to take advantage of the long weekend. If you really want to turn some heads and get people’s attention, look into offering bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Mary’s with the purchase of a meal, but be sure to set a time limit for how long they can take advantage of the bottomless libations.
2. Incentivize, Incentivize, Incentivize
With most kids having the day off from school and it being a federal holiday there will be no shortage of people looking to go out for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. So how do you make them choose your restaurant with every other restaurant chomping at the bit for their business? Offer a free appetizer or dessert per table with the purchase of an entree. These types of small incentives can be the difference between customers in the door and customers driving down the street to your competitor.
3. Remind Your Fans You Are Open
As tiny of a detail as it sounds, people may see a federal holiday as a day off for all and overlook the fact that you are still open. Sending a friendly reminder to your eClub the week before can help to not only let them know you are open that day but also to be a subconscious reminder the day of when they are thinking of the right place to dine.
